These are not the only power sets available and a defensive power set that greatly aids defenders who want to solo is the shield set. Perhaps the most famous shield defender of comic book fame is Susan Storm of the Fantastic Four. While her powers allow her to strike out and be a lone super hero, she uses these powers to aid her super team effectively. Personal Force Field and Force Bubble add to the defensive powers, while insulation shields boosts elemental resistances. Dispersion Bubble boosts psionic resistances, and deflection shield prevents damage from melee attacks. The key to using the powers of the force field defender while leveling is to know what resistances the character is likely to use ahead of time, whether he is soloing or in groups. This allows him to level more quickly and prevents unnecessary experience debt. Leveling a force field defender in City of Heroes and City of Villains is simply a matter of applying the correct defenses to keep the character or characters alive long enough to beat his enemies.
